Dog Bite Attorney

A serious dog bite injury can change your life or that of your child’s.   Some dog bites are so severe, that they result in disfigurement and major scarring.  The injury can be physical and emotional.  We will help you win your dog bite case for the maximum amount available and in the quickest time possible.

California law provides that the owner of a dog is liable for the damages suffered by anyone who is bitten while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the dog owner's property.  The fact that a dog does not have prior attacks, or the owner has no awareness of a dog's viciousness is not determinative under California law.

The California dog bite statute can impute "strict liability" on the owner's of animals for dog bites and attacks.  Strict liability means that a person is liable for damages even if the person used ordinary care, and therefore was not negligent in keeping or controlling the animal.

The particular facts involved in an injury caused by an animal are very important.  If an animal is provoked, or if the person injured is a trespasser, the rules of liability may change.  Special rules usually apply, if the person injured is a child.  Please contact an attorney immediately, if you are a victim of a dog bite or dog attack.

Cost to Hire Attorney

We work on a contingency fee basis, which means we are paid only if, we receive a monetary award or settlement.  Our fees and expenses will then be subtracted from the settlement amount.

Deadlines are Important

If you or someone you know has been bitten by a dog, there is a set period of time within which a lawsuit may be filed.  This is called a Statute of Limitations and it is very important to file a case within the appropriate deadline.  If the Statute of Limitations has expired relative to your situation, your lawsuit may be barred.  All States have their own Statute of Limitations deadlines.   Please consult an attorney to determine the applicable Statute of Limitations for your case.  Call the Law Office of Anna Costa for a free confidential initial consultation at (510) 410-5050 or email Acosta@costalawyer.com.
